BR tax code

I've just started a new very part time job for which my first monthly earnings were £124. This will be about the max per month. My annual taxable earnings are well under the £6035 allowance.

Although I gave my employer my P45 from my last job, they have applied tax code BR which I think means I get taxed at a flat rate of 20% I believe.

Could anyone advise me if this is correct please?

What did you P45 say? Did it show a BR tax code on it?

Or your P45 was too old for them to use. Ring the tax office and double check the BR isn't correct as they may have written to your employer and instructed them to use that code. If it's incorrect you need to fill in a P46, your employer will send it to the tax ofice who will write back with a correct tax code and you will be rebated through your wages.

Maybe it was just sent in too late for the payroll deadline?

I had to fill in a P46 form, and then it gave you 3 boxes based on your previous jobs to tick... Then that form takes upto 4 weeks to process and my employer paid it all back in my next wages.

Thank you all. My P45 tax code was D877L but it was dated April 2007 as I haven't worked since then.

I'll speak to the tax office and then my employer many thanks.
