we've been engaged less than a month and plan to get married in may 2011, we've looked at venues online and have brochures, quotes etc.. but i was thinking we would have at least a few months?

You can wait a few months if you like but some of the more popular venues will be taking bookings for dates in 2011. Try not to panic too much, you don't have to do what everybody else does.

Get a few brochures and more importantly go and physically look at the venues, don't just book look at a picture and then book it without seeing it. Remember too that venues will be cheaper mid week than at weekends which are always popular.

    BTW congratulations on your engagement.:D

Hello! I would be one of those May 2011 brides!

We only booked so early because a) it was a bank holiday b) the date is special to us and happens to be a Saturday that year.

I'd say you have a good few months left unless you want a bank holiday or a specific date. :)

  • thank you ladies, i was looking at bank holidays but the venues i actually have been to in the past are charging double for the sunday.
I would like to get married on the 14th may instead if i can't have a bank holiday so i'll just see, i have to wait for my mum to come back from spain though so she can come and look with me.

I would not panic unless you have a very specific date or venue in mind. I booked my venue in 2006 and we get married 15th August this year. They were actually taking bookings for 2010 at the time! Now if you are flexible with a date then you should not worry too much! But I would get looking anyway. The reason I booked so early was because weneeded a venue which was big enough for our day do and lots o local ones were just too small unfortunately!

Try and chill though because there are people on here who have planned a wedding is such a small space of time! Anything is possible! x

How about getting married on the Saturday of a bank holiday? That's what we're doing (Saturday 28th May 2011). Then it's more of a break/less of a rush for everyone who has to travel up. We didn't have to pay any extra compared to any other Saturday and all the venues I looked around were the same in that respect.

    Best of luck :)

We booked in July last year - we were looking for an august/sept wedding and our venue only had one Saturday left during those months for 2009.

I think it just depends on the venue and also what day/time of year you're really after...

If you have anywhere in mind, ring them up and ask what their availability looks like for May 2011 or ring a few places in the area. That should give you an idea on whether you need to get moving with the date......
