Help with post-dated cheques

Hi, I have just looked at my online banking and seen that a cheque I had written for a £200 deposit for my house next year has been cashed despite it being dated the 4th of March. Surely the bank shouldn't have taken it before then. Does anyone know the rules that apply with regarding to the banks liability and accepting…

The T&Cs of my bank account prohibit post dated cheques too.

As for it being illegal I think this is stretching the point a bit. It is certainly illegal to write a cheque you have no intention of paying but that is not the intention of post date cheques.

As has been said though, once the cheque is written the payee is entitled to cash it.
