You prob all know this already but I'm going to warn anyone who doesn't....
I was in morrissons and went to get some salad cream, i always get the "top down" one because it's so much easier. But today i checked the price of it compared to the normal size bottle and it seems ti be almost twice the price by weight!?

Its always best, so I've found to check the "price per 100gms or 100mls" as there are times when a smaller size is proportionatly cheaper0

Have you thought of making your own on an as-required basis? It takes patience and skill but is well worth it.Value-for-money-for-me-puhleeze!

How do you make it? I love salad cream and much prefer it to mayonnaise.Jane

Whilst it's not as labour intensive as mayonnaise it takes patience (or should that be planning?) because you need to boil the eggs first. Mash the boiled yolks down, add cream, mustard, and seasoning to taste. Then beat in some vinegar slowly until it is the right taste and consistency. Too much haste and vinegar will make it too acidic and too runny.Value-for-money-for-me-puhleeze!

Keep buying Heinz! They tried to do away with Salad Cream a few years ago because sales had dropped so much due to people switching to mayo and other dressings. But Heinz is, in this case, the original :-(
I remember seeing an interview with Marguerite Patten in which she talked about how they had to find a substitute for Salad cream during WW2 - I wish I could remember what they came up with.Eat food. Not too much. Mostly plants - Michael Pollan
