Remortgage, or new deal?

Hi all

I was hoping for some straight forward advice in terms of renegotiating my mortgage deal.

I currently have a variable mortgage where the deal ends in July - is it too early to start looking for a new deal, or should I start now? I'm fairly certain a fixed deal is very much the sensible choice.

Also, what are the basics of this process? And what is the correct term in terms of finding a deal? i.e. its not a remortgage as such, or a new mortgage. What is it classed as?

Finally, my loan requirement will be no higher than 90%, am I right in thinking that 6% is what i should be expecting?

thanks - im still fairly new to this process.

The FSA have a Money Made Clear Section that may help explain some jargon/terms. Their views on remortgaging options are here.

If you are looking to re-mortgage at 90%, your best bet will probably be to get the deals available from your current lender.

I would think that would be your best option first
