Northern Rock mortgage advice needed..

Options
Hi,I am new here so please be kind!!!!
We have a Northern Rock together mortgage on a 5 year fixed rate, we took out the mortgage in June 2006,we then moved in march 2008 and carried the mortgage with us ,we also have an unsecured loan linked to the mortgage,we have never not paid our monthly payment but my husband has just been made redundant, luckily he has been reinstated but for less money!!! and we are struggling to make ends meet.We have quite a large credit card debt and various other bits of debts on top of the mortgage and we really need to lessen our monthly outgoings.
I heard on the news a while back about not paying the interest on your mortgage for a while if you are struggling financially.
Could anyone explain this or know's of anything else we can do to save ourselves getting into anymore debt whilst we get back on our feet please?
Any advice will be much appreciated,Thank you x x x

  • Hi - someone who knows details of the govt scheme will be along in a while, but I suggest in the meantime you head to the Debt-free Wanabee board and post you statement of affairs to see where you can reduce your outgoings to allow you to afford the mortage and other debt repayments.

    Good luck.

    Homeowner Mortgage Support scheme

If you lose your job or suffer a drop in your wages, you may be able to get help from the Homeowner Mortgage Support Scheme. The scheme is currently being developed and will be available in spring 2009. It could help you by reducing your monthly mortgage payments for a fixed time while you get back on your feet.
