Cheap but good haircut..

My hair needs cutting as it's getting too long and I'm bored of it. I'm ok getting it cut and then letting it grow long again but it's time for a change again. I usually go to Tony and Guys but I don't want to be paying 30 odd pound for a cut and style and really all I want is it cutting a few inches and just a few layers around the front, something simple. I was thinking of going to the local college where prices are upto £18 depending on the experience of who's cutting your hair, but I'm scared of it being a disaster and them cutting too much off. Can anyone recommend any other places which are cheap?
