Ok, went bankrupt on 25th February and have my OR interview on 16th March..
My bankruptcy was forced by the fact that my OH left in September and I had to give up my job so ended up on income support. I have had a problem with online gambling, which has contributed to some of my debt but while I was working it was fine and I was able to make repayments.
When OH left I sank into a bad depression and with no money and christmas coming up I got sucked into gambling once again to try and find a magic solution - of course it never came and I ended up buying presents with my argos card and with a catalogue..
I never really faced up to how bad my gambling had been recently until I just opened my last bank statement ready to send to the OR. I am totally disgusted with myself, I spent over £700 in one month on gambling, and "borrowed" about £500 from friends and family to fund it
I have to add that I haven't gambled for a month and will NEVER do so again but as soon as OR sees that statement they are going to hit me with a big grilling and BRO.. I don't mind the BRO it's the least I deserve, I guess I deserve the grilling and telling off as well, but can someone tell me that's the worse thing they can do to me?
I am having to face this all on my own and I know some people will think badly of me for what I have done but you cannot think any worse of me than I think of myself.
Had to get that off my chest and writing it down has turned it into a reality and will serve as a reminder to me if I ever felt like gambling again

Hi dreamcatcher -
The BRO is the worst that they can do to you. Just be honest about how things happened with the OR and explain it the way it was. Be honest and it will be better for you. They don't like when you try hide things so admitting it was a problem and a bad idea which you will not be repeating should help smooth things over. Hope it goes better than you expect.

Hi dreamcatcher,
Donna is right (as usual) a BRO is the worst. May I ask what your total debt is and have you got a rough idea what % gambling losses takes up of that?

Hi Donna and thanks, I could live with a lifetime BRO, never want credit again as long as I live.
I will be honest and admit to my foolishness, have nothing to hide, I did it and that's that. Would just like the chance to start my life again - at the grand old age of 36 - and give my children a nicer life if at all possible.
I can see changes in myself already with reagrds to my spending habits - have even started buying savings stamps from Tesco to help towards Christmas!BSC No: 2450 -
Hi SA
Total debt is £27,000 £10,000 of that is a joint loan with OH. I put on my form that I had lost £5000 to gambling in the last two years, tbh, this might have been more than that but gamblers don't tend to keep track of their losses!BSC No: 2450 -
Sorry for the delay - been to the gym!!
Well, it has been said on here by "those that know" that over 10 - 15% of total debts incurred by gambling run the risk of getting a BRU/BRO which is what you have suspected. I think you will find that a lot of your questions will be steered towards the gambling debts by the OR.
However, you have pledged to stop and indeed once BR you will find it very difficult to find money to gamble, even if the temptation arose.
I am pleased that you have managed to stop through willpower and not for any other reason. That means that you are committed. A lot of people when they are low turn to a way of comforting themselves, drink, drugs and gambling being examples.
Think of it as a chance of a new start and look forwards to a better, healthier future.2011 - New year, New start, New me[STRIKE]Planning on [/STRIKE] making my dreams a reality0 -
Been to the gym? Get puffed out just at the thought of that! Have pledged to start swimming once a week, but haven't as yet managed to drag myself to the local pool...
I am expecting a BRO/U as I said, I deserve one, I know I'll just have to go through the interviews and be thankful that I have been given this chance to start my life again. It's nice to have reassurance that that is the worse they can do to me.. Have nightmares where they take my bankruptcy order off me and tell me to get on with it!
Just recieved a text from Paydayuk telling me I have defaulted on the loan repayment.. I emailed them a copy of my BR certificate this morning after they phoned me, so i guess thay are going to keep hassling me until they hear from OR at least..BSC No: 2450 -
I suffer sometimes with mood swings and my psychologist recommended regular exercise - it releases "feel good" chemicals into the body and I am very lucky to have both a gym and pool where I work so take full advantage.
I was pestered by Provident over the last couple of weeks but finally managed to get rid of them by speaking to a manager and making him check the Insolvency Register while I stayed on the phone.
It is so nice to have a quiet phone these days.

Take the kids, initially it'll be just for fun but then you will start wanting to swim properly.:beer:0 -
I would Haley but it's so expensive! About a fiver each to get in..
I know there are concessions for people on IS but the problem I have is the local pool to me is in another council district to the one I actually live in, so I can't get the concession as I don't live in the borough
Did take my little girl to the park at the weekend and then for a nature hunt through the paddock at the back of my house, it was really nice. I'm glad the warmer weather is coming, will be able to get out more oftenBSC No: 2450 -
yes, thats the problem with trying to do things, the expense. why dont you see if they do a course, for a set price you get so many sessions which usually means that they end up cheaper than single visits:beer:0
