I always work out from a months money how much spare cash i have left after paying the bills, food shopping etc.I then divide this amount by the amount of weeks in that month and take this money out at the beginning of each week in cash and keep it in drawer, when the money is gone thats it for the rest of the week and i would have to then go without until the following week,it really helps me decide on whether i actually need something or just want it and its working really well for me.Another thing that i do is that i always do my food shopping online,as you can work from a set list after planning your meals and means you wont be tempted to buy anything else on your list and you can see the amount spent totting up on the side for you to keep an eye on your food budget,i have saved £80 per month from shopping online to shopping in a supermarket-you can still get all of the offers and choose a midweek delivery slot as its loads cheaper.Good luck x0

I think part of my problem is that my income is erratic, not in the amounts but that it comes at all times of the month and I find it really hard to plan what i've got when my direct debits come out. I used to get paid monthly and i took out what was left after my expenses but know I get paid weekly from one job, monthly from another, I have a weekly payment from the rental of my stables and a monthly payment from a buy to let so its all a mighty muddle. I am going to start using my farm shop and try to avoid the supermarket as I know I buy stuff I shouldnt
ie magazines. And I have bought some books from Amazon to keep my reading need sorted, but I also started a book bag in the office where we pass on books we've read so I won't go to amazon again,
Keep your advice coming its been great. thankyou:beer:0 -
Have you joined your local library so you can read your favourite books for free! If they haven't got the book you want, just ask and they can order it in so there is no need to miss out!!When you were born, you were crying and everyone around was smiling. Live your life so at the end, you're the one who is smiling and everyone around you is crying! :rotfl:0

How about having a read through some more of these posts, and trying to think yourself into the situation where you have no choice but to spend next to nothing? It will take a good imagination, but if you can picture yourself in that position, the throwaway/discretionary spending may be less tempting?
Good luck! Please do not confuse me with other gratefulsforhelp. x0
