Fruit Trees.

I have a variety of fruit trees and they have been recently pruned. I would like to know what is the best spray for them to discourage fly etc?

  • I used to use pherome traps for my apples and plums. They were very effective

Blackcurrents were always fine without any sprays

    No problem with rasps either

gooseberries, I bought the mildew resistant ones so didn`t need sprays

I also set up a lacewing box near the soft fruits. The resulting ecosystem meant that I didn`t have a fly problem. Sprays can disrupt the ecosystem so that greenflies etc take a hold

Damsons and Victoria Plums didn't do well last year. Pears and some of the eating apples went mad, Cookers poor show compaired to the previous years glut.
It just they look like they could do with a pick me up of some sort and I don't know what?

Blackcurrents, gooseberries and loganberries always do well. Never had a problem with them.

  • Don`t forget to water regularly Rikki and I used to use a fruit fertiliser as well. Bramleys tend to do better alternate years. Victoria plums flower early and yours may have been hit by the frost. Otherwise the pherome traps worked really well on those. They had maggots the year previously

I've cut my apple tree down this year as it's done nothing for the last two years. I'm going to get a different one and put it somewhere more sensible in my garden. The plum tree didn't do very well last year either. I think I need to feed it with something but I don't know what?
Organised people are just too lazy to look for things

I 've had two bad years with my plumbs and damsons. I am not the only one in this village.
