Virgin Sim Calls Abroad
bunken
Not sure where to post this as I can't find the old Virgin thread?
I just received my virgin sims in the mail with 5 pounds of credit.
Calls to other UK networks are charged at 35p a min, whereas if you call USA, Canada, Australia or NZ they are only 20p a min.
Funny how it's less expensive to call abroad then in then in the UK.
I just spoke to family in USA for 25 mins and all with a free sim.
Happy talking!!!!

Its because of the internconnection rates the operators charge each other."An eye for an eye leaves the whole world blind" - Mahatma Gandhi0 -

I believe the Virgin ToC state that you have to make at least one charge-making call every 90 days at least in order for your account to remain active.
It used to be unlimited, but they slowing changed it to one call a year -> once every 6 months - now its every quarter I belive.
I don't have a copy of the terms, but I'm sure that they will be on the Virgin website.0 -
thanks for this!0

so (being a bit thick here!) if i dont activate the sim until i go away, the credit will still be ok as i hadnt previously actived the sim (hope that makes sense, it did when i thought it!)

You can make even cheaper Intl Calls and X-Net Mobile Calls using your Virgin Payg Sim Card. How because Virgin only charge 15p a minute to call a 0871 number so
1.If you used the https://www.dialaround.co.uk 0871 number
0871 999 34 34 you can call x-network uk mobile numbers.
2.Noticed this on Bobs Free Forum you can make cheaper Intl calls to numerous destinations from Virgin Payg using 0871 317 5678. See : http://www.cheapercallsv.tk/
http://www.bobsfreestuffforum.co.uk/forum/viewtopic.phpt=851
I phoned USA yesterday using 0871 317 5678 and the Free £5 lasted about 30 minutes. :grinheart0 -
Terms and conditions are on the back of the pack supplied by Virgin and state at the bottom of the centre section under Section 7(a) 'We may suspend our services or disconnect a sim card if..........(v) you choose not to make a call or send a text message for 180 days or more.'
So appears to be 6 months/180 days and to keep the Sim alive you just need to send a text every 5 months or so.0 -
I got a couple of sims yesterday.Used the 0871 idea to phone Canada for 15 minutes out of the free £5.Still got over £2 left.0
