Should I go on a spree a week before my BR?

  • I used all the tiny bits of credit left available ( I had 4 cards and an o/d) and bought food, housekeeping supplies like loo roll and cleaning stuff and a vacuum cleaner.... getting me ready for the brave new world. Nothing was said at the interview ..... but I certainly wouldn't recommend a splurge on luxuries! ;)

  • I think I'll make a few supermarket trips to stock up with supplies rather than gadgets!

A really good idea, I bought loads of dry goods and tins and stocked the cupboards right up. It can be quite tight on a budget after BR.

  • i forgot to say that the 1300 pounds he paid my credit card off with was from his 2000 pound arranged overdraft so will the official receiver see this as debt taken on that he couldnt pay as said by someone earlier on this site.?we did intend tho to pay back what we could but hasnt worked that way and we will have to continue using it for fee and bills.

Possibly as it went to your credit card. If he can explain that it went on fees, food, etc then it might be ok, but if it was to pay off some of your card so you can use it after he has gone BR then it could be seen as preferential treatment IYKWIM.

My BR is next week, and one of my credit cards hasn't been stopped yet. I'm wondering about going out and buying a few hundred pounds worth of stuff on it such as an X-Box and/or an iPhone, maybe some DVDs.

Logic tells me this is a pretty stupid and irresponsible thing to do, but I'm wondering would it matter? Would this count as taking credit which I knew I couldn't repay and therefore likely lead to a BRO? Or would it just vanish into a sea of debt.

I suppose at this stage I'm thinking what harm could a few more hundred do when I'm going down the pan for £160k. But I really really don't want a BRO.

    Any views?

Sorry but what you are saying is down right wrong. I am a self employed guys that has has lost about £20,000 due to 2 people going br on me.

    Lucky you .....

When was your BR date, mine was January.... my holiday budget is £10 a month... should be able to pay for a day trip somewhere in the Autumn, barring emergencies!

BR in Jan, first 1 of the year in my local court. TBH had a good budget for oil, but tank was full b4 BR and haven't used hardly any. Normally have to fill it up every two months!!, but it has suddenly become economical!?! Perhaps it knew I was skint!

Yep, some budgets offer more room for "money management" than others and I also think it depends on the number in the household.
A single budget is pretty much cutting things to the bone, especially when running a car .... anything can happen and if and when it does usually goes way over the £30 a month given for car repairs.
    Speaking from experience.....
