Hi Narnia2000, I'm really interested to find out more about this life partnership visa/permit that you are going to get. I can't find anything about it on the SA High Commission Home affairs website.

Is it a relatives permit (foreign spousal relationship), or a temporary residence permit (foreign spousal relationship) or a permanent residence permit (foreign spousal relationship)?

I'm interested because I left SA when my 1 year study permit ran out and my boyfriend is still living there (SA'n) and I thought there was no way I could go back and be able to live and work there permanently.

    Hi Zebedy,
I wish that I still had the link....if I can find it I will post: The gist is that you both have to sign an affidavit stating that you have been in a monogamous relationship for more than a year. This partnership visa allows a partner.....same sex or not, to live in SA but not work, it is reviewed after 2 years to check that you are both still together, after a total of 5 years you can apply to be a citizen of SA in your own right. Once you have the partnership visa you can apply for a work visa, the easiest route to all of this seems to be via specialist lawyers in SA...you can't apply unless you are in SA, you can't enter SA unless you have a return ticket. Breytenbachs sp? specialise....but so do many others, you can check eligibility online, the fee is reasonable, once you have 2 year residence you can apply for a work permit....hope this helps.
