    If your NVQs and BTECs are relevant to the work you do, they will far outweigh your D grade GCSEs. If you were a school leaver then granted they might be your only way of demonstrating your learning. Don't forget most employers are actually far more interested in your skills and experience that you can bring from a previous role. Most of them won't give two hoots what your GCSEs are as long as you are the right person for the job.

    On your applications make sure you focus on the effort and commitment you have put into your previous roles and the knowledge you needed to demonstrate in order to attain your NVQ.

    I always laugh at my boss who went to great lengths to play down mine and my colleagues NVQ we completed as far easier than hers because she had to compile a massive portfolio. My retort was, "Anyone can copy a portfolio, sitting with an assessor and a dictaphone through over 3-4 hours of professional discussions and then drawing competencies from that is much harder to fake." Detail what you had to do to gain your quals and be proud of them.
