Peugeot 207 Won't Start! Help Please

I am writing on behalf of my mum and would really welcome any advice on this issue please.
She owns a Peugeot 207 1.4 Urban on a 2007 registration plate. It has never worked properly in that (and please excuse my lack of technical know how or wording) when she turns the ignition, she is supposed to hear the sound of the catalytic converter but she never does and she always ends up having to put her foot on the throttle to start the car as otherwise it refuses to start. It just dies if she doesn't do this. This has been since she bought it from new. She isn't daft by the way and has been driving Peugeots for years with no problems.
She has done 12000 miles and was planning to take it in for a service and to be looked at but the garage have told her that she doesnt need to take it in til 20,000 miles which is at the end of the three year warranty - is this right?
Has anyone had any experience of this or please can you give her some advice about how to deal with this as because she is a woman she feels that she isnt being taken seriously. Surely the car start up problem is a major issue? can you also tell us what the technical word for this is so at least she can feel more car savvy
yours hopefully

Mine talks to me all the time .... "I'm going to cost you a fortune when I fail"
To the OP: A car that consistently fails to start properly can actually do damage to the costly catalytic converter and significantly shorten its life due to unburnt petrol vapour passing through the exhaust system.
Your mother should insist on booking the car in now. I'm quite sure the garage would be delighted if she left it until the waranty had run out so she picks up the bill for something that should have been corrected at their expense in week one.

If she's planning on keeping the car tell her to get it serviced or at least an oil change now. It must be on long life service which in my opinion is too long for the oil when she's only doing a small mileage or short journeys. I've got a VW which was down for long life servicing but I change the oil every 12 months.0

you dont need to wait till servicing time to get warranty work done, infact most garages will tell you to bring it back and book it in at a later date for warranty work to be done as thier day is booked up.
catalytic convertors shouldnt make any noises....work permit granted!0 -
Personally, I'd get the car booked in ASAP to find out what's happening - I've got a 7 year old 206 that often cuts out on the cold start during the winter, despite numerous trips to the garage. It's OK in the summer though.... And there is a known problem with the 206 cutting out - would have thought they might have corrected it for the 207 though.
Mine has a 20,000 mile or 24 month service interval, but the service schedule says to take it along annually for a quick check over, so I wonder why the garage aren't interested in seeing your mum's car? Can she take it to another dealer in the Peugeot network or does it have to be the garage she bought it from?
If it were me I'd insist that they looked at it.0 -
Does your mum turn the ignition on and continue all the way to the start position with the key?
If she does this the engine will turn over all day and not fire up.
With new Pugs and Citroens you must turn on the ignition so all the lights glow, wait 2 or 3 seconds and then turn the key further to start the car, sounds odd but its supposed to be like this. Try it.0 -
gilbert - yes she does this thankssave energy - stay in bed x0
