Old favourite: save 1 litre on every flush

I've said before but in the interests of Martins money saving book here's a save your pocket AND the environment tip!
We all know its hard work to clean up water to drinking standard, so it seems very daft we flush it down the loo... So save a little water on every flush by taking an old plastic drinks bottle (500ml, 1 litre whatever you like) and fill to the brim with water, so there is no air bubble at all! Pop the lid on and place it in the toilet cistern where it doesn't get in the way of anything that moves (I put mine vertically on far left, opposite side to flush lever).
The bottle will displace/retain it's own volume of water on every flush so I've been saving a litre on every flush, which probably adds ups to over 1000 litres a year (only 2 of us in the house) which is a money saver AND an environmental saver!

Good tip though thanks.0 -
If you go to your local water boards website, they will send you (free) a save-a-flush bag, ive got one, and you just pop it in your cistern, and it swells up and reduces the amount of water used!! This is the link for SWW http://www.southwestwater.co.uk/index.cfm?articleid=16230
