confused about eye test results

eye tests are subjective and depend on understanding in both ways between the optomertrist and the customer (ie what is ment by the question and what is ment by the answer) the chart and mirror relys on a set room length, whereas the projection chart can be callibrated to the room size. sorry i cant help with the difference between the 2 tests!Dogs return to eat their vomit, just as fools repeat their foolishness. Hi There I have had 2 eye tests from different high street opticians with the following results:
Eytest 1:
Right Sph+1.75 Cyl-1.00 Axis160
Left Sph+3.00 Cyl-1.25 Axis10
Eytest 2:
Right Sph+0.50 Cyl+0.75 Axis60
Right Near Sph+1.50 cyl+0,75 Axis 60
Left Sph+1.00 Cyl+1.25 Axis104
Left Near Sph+2.00 Cyl+1.25 Axis 104
Can someone please help me explain the results are so different?
The 2nd eyetest told me that I now had two issues in that I needed glasses I needed a different prescription from reading and for distance.
I don't quite understand how the 1st eye test didn't pick up this point, Please note I do not want to blame anyone hear I just want to get the correct prescription for my glasses. Any advice would be most appreciated.
Kind regards

The first thing to point out is that the first prescription is in a minus cyl format and the other a +, this will make the differences seem larger than they actually are so transposing eye test 2 so its the same as 1 It should read, (this is just another way of writing the results, it doesnt change what you were prescribed)
R +1.25 -0.75 x 150
L +2.25 -1.25 x 14 (hopefully thats right, its been a while since ive needed to do that !)
You then been given a +1.00 ds addition for reading in the second and not the first, this is the starting point for varifocals and bifocals so is a 'small' amount of help, the reason for that is going to be whatever your discussion was with the optician, did you discuss the need for reading glasses ? were you prescribed glasses for reading only (ie for newspaper/computer use or for everyday/general use) ? Why did you have 2 tests ? were they 1 after the other or months apart ?
Any answer you are given here can only be guess work im afraid !!

Eytest 1:
Right Sph+1.75 Cyl-1.00 Axis160
Left Sph+3.00 Cyl-1.25 Axis10
Eytest 2:
Right Sph+0.50 Cyl+0.75 Axis60
Right Near Sph+1.50 cyl+0,75 Axis 60
Left Sph+1.00 Cyl+1.25 Axis104
Left Near Sph+2.00 Cyl+1.25 Axis 104
Sorry I like a negative cyl so I get
RX 1 right +1.75/-1.00 x 160 left +3.00/-1.25x 10
RX 2 right +1.25/-0.75 x 150 left +2.25/-1.25 x 14 with a reading add of 1.00
Which makes me think you're in your 40s and struggling with reading a bit but at your last test you weren't struggling enough for the optom to bother writing in your reading add.
The difference is subjective, optical prescriptions aren't as straight forward as "can't see the bottom line so that's -1), some people don't tolerate as much minus as others so 2 people with identical vision can have completely different prescriptions.
Presumably you feel a change in your prescription, your old glasses just aren't doing it for you any more? If that's the case then get a new set with the new prescription. If you're not convinced ask the optom if he/she can set up the test frame with the new prescription and take a wander round the shop with it on to see if you can feel a difference.0 -
hello..
Interesting thread,
I am in the middle of possibly wasting some more money on my daughters glasses, She had been complainingthat her Glasses from Nov last year are giving her hecache and that she cannot see properly through them, Obviously I took her for another eye exam. It seems like a huge difference in prescription
First ones from vision express are:
right +6.00 -1.00 95
left +7.75 -2.25 45
Second ones from spec savers are:
right +4.50 +1.50 7.5
Left +4.75 +2.25 147.5
I understand that the results can be wrote two ways and thats whats happened with the CYL here....but if they are converted to read the same way is the difference still a huge one as it seems to be here????????
Her lenses cost me a fortune as I get them thinned down, so along with the fancy frames I can be looking at 80 pounds plus each time.....its alot to be paying out if she is not getting the right prescription. I have a feeling that vision express may have made a mistake with the prescription in the first place :-(
Many thanks0 -
Written the same way the second prescription is
R +6.00/-1.50X97.5
L +7.00/-2.25X57.5
There's certainly a difference but not as much as it appears in the other form. Kids eyes can change over short periods, very often they are checked every 6 months.0 -
Thank you....well she has the new lenses now and its just one of those things, Helps that the presciption when written in the same formats is not so bad...I had a horrible feeling that someone had got something dramaticly wrong lol x0

the eye which has better vision has 30 axis but the other which has bad vision has 159 axis. If you kindly tell me which is better and if the axis is not correct what will be its effect in vison. second question As I already mentioned that my one eye is lazy eye which has the angle or axis of 160. I am doing some treatment as i hear it can be treated can you please let me know how can I know the improvement I mean if some improvement happen the axis will be change or the cylinder or the SP?0
-
The axis part of your prescription is the angle the lenses need to be set at, not how strong or weak they are - the power is determinded by Sphere (sph) and Cylinder (Cyl).
If the axis is not correct, the vision will not be correct, but by how much depends on the Cyl power. If this is low (-0.25 for example) 10 degrees either way on the axis will make little or no difference. The higher the Cyl power goes, the more accurate the axis needs to be.
I don't understand the second part of your post - there is no treatment available for a lazy eye in an adult. There is nothing you can do to change your optical prescription, except have lazer surgery.0 -
Hi,
I was wondering if someone could help me interpret my 2 differing eye tests. I had discount vouchers for both D&A and Optical Express, so I had an eye test done at both.
My eye test at Optical Express had the following results:
Right: Sphere -1.75 Cyl +0.50 Axis 100.0
Left: Sphere -2.50 Cyl +0.25 Axis 110.0
My eye test at D&A had the following results:
Right: Sphere -1.25 Cyl -0.25 Axis 180
Left: Sphere -2.25 Cyl -0.50 Axis 180
Can anyone tell me what the difference is between the two tests?
Thank you0
