Colitos??

Has anyone heard of Colitos or even had it? My sister in law has been in hospital for the past week and was today diagnosed with this. Doctors didn't really explain much and said she will know more when they send her an appointment to come back. Can anybody tell us more about what this is?? Obviuosly we know the symptoms because she has them but we don't know how long it lasts or if it gets worse or what the treatments are...

Sorry to hear about your SIL. She has been diagnosed with Colitis (spelt right for your google searches) This is what is called an Inflammitory Bowel Disease (IBD). I am the proud owner of Crohns which is the other disease to what your SIL has.

I think the best bet is to look at a couple of websites that can explain it better for you:

All I could say right now is, give her lots of support, for me its a highly embarrasing condition as well as painful. I can get grumpy, irritable and sad on bad days, so be strong for her.

I suffer with Ulcerative Colitis, and have done since 1990. Is is a chronic bowel disease which causes inflammation on the intestines/bowel. This causes Diarrohea,stomach cramps and bleeding. I am on lifetime medication and luckily have been in remission for 7 years. Mine tends to flare up if I have any stress. Regular check ups are required, but you can go onto lead a normal life. If the hospital don't giver your SIL any leaflets, get her to have a look on the National Association Of Crohns and Colitis. https://www.nacc.org.

Awe thanks for that I'll read through those sites..Yeah she has had a bad time and the most worrying thing is although she is eating she is nearly skin and bone!! Sorry to hear you've had a rough time too...

No worries. Hope all goes well for her. I know how scared I was when they first diagnosed me. It is also worth her becoming a member of NACC, £10 a year, I think, as she gets a "Cant wait card" Which some shops are really good at letting you use their loos.

Inflammatory bowel diseases (IBD) can be really considered to be systemic diseases since they are often associated with extraintestinal manifestations, complications, and other autoimmune disorders.

I've had Ulcerative Colitis for over ten years now with two major flare ups and on lifetime medication too. When the Colitis isn't active life is normal for me. When it's active I can be grumpy, sad and totally fed up...

I too have ulcerative colitis. I have now had it for about 16 years. I am on medication too. I have had 2 serious flareups. I find that stress is a major factor in me having flareups and I have made some changes to my diet too to keep things stable. The things that trigger relapsese has to be found by yourself as it can be different with one than it can be with another.
