  • Hi, I think £800 per month on groceries seems excessive. I think if you pop over to the money saving old style board and there is a wealth of information about batch cooking, receipes and you could probably easily halve this.

One day maybe I will be debt free :o
  • hi as regards the £800 groceries this includes all tolietries and kitchen stuff ...... eg soap powder etc and school lunches
  • Groceries, gas, electric and mobile phone costs are astronomical!!!!!!

We are a family of 5 and are grocery bill is around £300 per month.....are you eating caviar? Look at old style board etc....cook from scratch, don't buy ready meals. Bulk out chilli/spag bol etc with dried lentils etc.

Are your gas and electric pre-payment meters and you are repaying arrears or something?

Mobile phone - how many? Contract or PAYG? If you are PAYG with O2 or Orange (sure the others must do something similar) you can pay £10 per month and get 300 free text messages etc - you need to shop around.

Council Tax - does this have arrears? Ask to have payments spread over 12 months instead of 10.
  • Oooh - still on the high side for the groceries!! Def have a look at the old style thread - loads of top tips like batch cooking etc.

Best of luck in you quest, Nats
    start = Wed 19th Nov 2008 £21,225
end = Mon 28th Sept 2015 DEBT FREE!
I love a good plan - it may not work.... but I love a good plan!
  • Make the most of BOGOF offers for toiletries etc - bulk buy them to last you until they are on offer again.

Where do you shop? Try Aldi/Lidl for some of your shopping - their cooked meats etc are great as are the fruit and veg. Try downgrading some of your shopping each week for a brand lower - if you don't like it, change back and try something else.

Lidl is good for loo roll because you can buy 24 roll packs for about £9 as opposed to buying Andrex or whatever where you get less. Tesco also sell 16 roll packs which are OK.

There's nothing listed for presents either - surely as you have 4 kids you buy them stuff? These need to be included too.

Cut back on the clothes spends too - ebay what no longer fits or carboot it.

The mobile phone is for three contract phones ....... The gas is a prepayment meter and the electric we were paying £47 but scottish gas has put it up to a hundred.....The council tax is just normal no arrears

Your SoA doesn't make sense and we can't give advice until these sections are completed.

Can you go back to post #1 and fill in the gaps.

Also if you are worried about the situation post-April, put in April's figures.
