catering cost.can anyone tell me if this is good or not?

hi

we are having our catering done by a friend of a friend shes not a catere by trade she has dine a couple so thought we would try her

heres what we are having so any responces would be great.

we are getting married late so having cananpes and champagne(champane costs we are paying separate for) about 5ish

cananpes for 50 people she has charged £250

evening buffet for 90 people she said £450

whole salmon,meat platter,cheeses,pasta,sausage rolls,bread for meats and cheeses,rice,dips,and quiche.

i was having a separate buffet for kids that are coming approx 10 kids but decided to scrap that idea so told her to leave it and she said that would of cost her about £35-40 but that she hadnt costed childens mini burgers, hotdogs for there canapes so the price of cananpes has not gone up to £300??

so all in all about £750

now i know she goes to costco and places like that for her food, and i also know that she needs a profit but do you think this is expensive??

thanks
appreciate what you have got x

Why don't you get a couple of quotes for the same from a couple of professional caterer companies? That way you can compare
:D Finally decided to start growing up when it comes to money!:j
  • in some of the manor houses they charge about £8-£12 for canapes and about the same for buffet per head

I reckon £5ish a head is very reasonable.

That is pretty much what we would charge and thats a decent range of stuff she is providing.

And i work in the NHS which only allows us to cover our costs and no more.

You've got a bargain there! I'm in catering, we charge £12.50 a head for a spread like that. Canapes we charge £3 a head. But overall she's done you a very good deal. I'd go for it.

The canapes may seem expensive to you but it all depends what you are getting. I'd rather do a buffet any day than canapes which can be time consuming and fiddly. Remember you are paying her for all her shopping and prep time plus any help she may need.

yes i agree with i am getting quite alot and also her time and preparing it.

it was just with her not saying she hadnt costed it correctly when i said i wanted to get rid off childrens buffett??

thanks for your time i shall stick with her!!

  • I am getting quotes for £8 a head for stovies - something which is only less than a £1 to make! It is from te venue though so they have you at ransom. If I was offered those prices I would bite her hand off for it!
I miss using my infinite coupons at Tesco!

I'd agree! Very Resonable I know canape's at a nearby hotel are £10pp and looking at a quote for buffet's for £4.50 you get sarnies and crisps!
