PSP help please

Options
Hi,
I`ve been offered a PSP at a reasonable price 2nd hand but when I asked if it was a proper GB version the guy said that

"it`s the version that you press O to enter and X back on the main home of the PSP other than that its the exact same infact it plays more games and movies than a normal one.u wont be disappointed buddy its an excellant wee toy"

What on earth does all this mean ? Do you reckon it`s an import coz if so I probably don`t want it . . . . . Any help would be appreciated guys
Cheers

My psp is a japanese import O selext and X is back withing the psp menus

within games it depends on where the game is from UK are usually x for select and o for back it can be a pain using a UK one after my jap one but the benifits are huge.

I assume the extra games he is talkng about homebrew, this is software created by some people allowing the use of other software writen for the psp including emulators so you can play old sega/nintendo games C46 ect real retro stuff. other sofware includes universal remote for TV's tetris and loads of others

The real advantage are the UMD emulators UMD is the media that the psp use with umd emulators you can play images of your psp games from the memory stick rather than risking your £35 UMD you can take 2/3 games with you stored on a 2GB memory stick. this is only possible if the PSP is version 1.5, 1.51-2.00 can be downgraded to 1.5 but anything above and including 2.01 cant

unfortunatly some of the newer PSP games GTA LS, king kong WWE can only be played on a 2.00 PSP or higher

Any PSP's bought in the UK since december are 2.01 or higher and not really the ones to have. 1.5 are, because of the advantages of not requiring the UMD with you to play the games. to check go to the far left menu and down to SYSTEM SETTINGS then to version and check it is 1.50.

As for UMD movies Japan is the same region as the UK region 2 so there is no problem with that the US isregion 1 and it could be a problem but im not sure if it is a US import and I dont know how to find out other than trying a r2 UMD movie.

im not sure if the forum will allow me to go further pm me for more info.
  • Hairy,

The ones with X and O buttons the other way around is a Japanese version.

I've got the Jap version and it plays all UK games and movies no problem. The menus are all in english etc, it may just be the instruction book which is in Japanese, but you can download an english version off the web if you so wish.

Buy it, as long as it is a good price, it will be fine! ;)
  • If the buttons been the 'wrong way round' bothers you, you can always use the option to change it ;)
I would have used my own initiative if someone would have told me to!

Interestingly I have just bought a 2 gig memory stick as i'd like to put my 3 umd games onto it as I find it a pain carrying them around as well as the psp.

Can anyone advise me how to get the games from the umd onto the memory stick?

I can work out how to run them once they are there but I cannot work out how you get the data from the umd onto the stick/pc in the first place.

Mods please note this is not a warez post as I own the games and only want to know how to back them up. I can prove this if required.

If this is a sensitive subject then perhaps someone might PM me the answer?

    Help appreciated.

If you intend to play backed up games on your psp using an umd emulator you will still need to have a umd in the system.

Also they have started getting homebrew to work on firmware 2.01 upto 2.60.
For more information on homebrew go here.
Sometimes i surprise myself by being right.

again you need a psp with version 1.5 or 2.00 and downgrade anything in between requires upgrading to 2.00 then a downgrade. you will also need a UMD if ising umd emulator to play the ripped games devhook doesnt require a umd in the drive.

fastloader has an option to rip your UMD to the memory stick you will need enough space on the memory stick to fit the game in the drive some games have junk files in them which can be removed with some clever work. let me know which games you have and I will tell you the size they should come out at and how much card space you will need. the sizes vary my need for speed was 800mb but I removed a few packing files and it droped to less than 200mb
  • For Copyright reasons, that would not be possible.

I'd love to discuss and help you, but I don't think it's allowed, and a mod may close this thread soon!

    Sorry.

Thanks Little John - that gives me all the info I needed.
Best leave it there in case we open the 'copyright' issues debate. I can do the rest based on 'google'.
