Itchy sore Scalp

I've always had long hair however I had my hair cut short in december and ever since i've been having trouble with my scalp, it's itchy and sore and driving me mental.

Having kids the first thing i've checked for all the usual suspects (lice etc) and im all clear and the kids are clear, but have de-flea'd myself a couple of times just to be sure haha.

The only thing i can put it down to is that im using wax/mousse etc on my hair now it's short which i didn't need when it was long.

I've changed brands a number of times in an effort to find one that doens't irritate me but still my head is flaring up to the point it often bleeds which is just not good!!!!the more time go's on the worse it gets it's so bad right now that my head is just one big scab! Ewww too much info i know.

Not putting SOMETHING on my hair to keep it down isn't an option, i've resorted to leaving my head product free at weekends but i look like the hulk in the old tv show... big fluffy head, it looks totally rediculas but the itching etc does seem to ease up when i don't have any products on my hair

Anyone got any suggestions??

  • I used a hair gel recently not my usual brand and had the same thing.I only got it to calm down when I took some antihistimine. -Piriton.

As for what works I used to use cheap non brand gel and had no problem so i have gone back to that. My head is not quite calm yet though so cant say it works for sure.

Are you drying your hair with a hair dryer? Could you be using it on too high a heat?
Please forgive me if my comments seem abrupt or my questions have obvious answers, I have a mental health condition which affects my ability to see things as others might.
  • Mine`s been the same, even my hairdresser commented on it last week.I know whats caused mine, its using Lush`s shampoo bar o i`ve been adviced to use T Gel. It is a bit better now so once its right again i`ll use T Gel once a week.

Don't let the mousse get onto the scalp as this can cause irritation.
My heads the same I occasionally use mousse but have to be really careful, I have yet to find a brand that doesn't cause problems if it gets on my scalp. T-gel shampoo does help as nuttywomen suggested.

nope no hair dryer it's short enough that it dry's on it's own in about 5 minutes.

I'll try the T.Gel and the antihistimine see if they help but i dunno what to do about my head.. i can't just stop using anything on it, its bad enough my husband and kids pick on me during my "hulk" days i couldn't possibly go to work like that.. Ugh... i'll try and stop it getting onto my scalp and maybe start washing it as soon as i get home at night rather than in the shower in the morning so the stuffs on for as litte as possible, i simply can't go on like this.
  • Go to the chemist and get some soap spirit - this will clean all the products off then rinse with water which has had oats soaking in it for a while - very soothing - good in the bath too - put the oats in an old clean cotton sock and tie the top.
Do you get psoriasis anywhere as its common on the head too

TBH you really need to give your scalp a rest, can you not even wear a hat or scarf for a week or so to let it settle down then try an organic product with as few ingredients as poss, the reaction could be to any number of things.
If you look around the internet theres loads of homemade shampoo / hair product recipes so youll know exactly what your using
    Hope this helps

sounds like u might have the same scalp condition as me and my husband get a shampoo called nizoral - will clear it up a treat!

Much better than t-gel or other commercial medicated brands - you can get it from chemists or boots.

If it's as bad as you say, I'd go to the GP.
