Tesco pricecheck - not comparing against ASDA any more?

Tesco pricecheck - http://www.tesco.com/pricecheck/ does not appear to be comparing against ASDA any more - what are they scared of?

Asda is currently in the process of changing their website, so it's possible that Tesco's software cannot do the price compare right now. It's not a fear thing, just a short term technical issue.

Plus, if you scroll down, they often change the store that they do their comparison with, probably so that they are not seen to be biased to wards one store, but also because technical issues may stop them including a specific store from that comparison.

  • If I was Tesco I would try and quietly stop comparing prices to Asda as well, lol.

My understanding was that they had secret shoppers who actually went in-store and checked the prices rather than relying on online mechanisms.

In any case - I did a quick comparison with mysupermarket.co.uk and found that Tesco was indeed cheaper for most of the items I buy - but I still like to use pricechecker as a second source of comparison. I do seem to recall that at one point they checked Sainburys/ASDA/Morrisons all side-by-side.
