Will definately watch this thread with interest- we were planning to get married but after the prices we were seeing london/ surry we decided to bin the idea off for a while!!
 Well aint funny how its the little things in life that mean the most? Not where you live, the car you drive or the price tag on your clothes.
Theres no dollar sign on piece of mind
    This Ive come to know...
So if you agree have a drink with me, raise your glasses for a toast
  • Can I suggest you might like to look at a Holiday Inn? I'm on a budget and went to view a Holiday Inn in St Helens and it was very nice. What made it even nicer was that I got a DJ, buffet for 120 and free room hire. The wedding planner was lovely and said we could try a sample of the buffet too, it was extra for desserts but we were thinking about serving our cake or seeing if we could have some cakes from Costco instead. Also we're saving money by having guests buy their own drinks at the moment, although if we can afford it we may ask about corkage. BTW the way the basic package was £1000 but you could also get the package we agreed to for £500 extra as the £1000 was a hotpot buffet for 35 (I think) I'll check my brochure and let you know.

Here's the link if you want to order a brochure for yourself:

My wedding planner (in the Holiday Inn, I am arranging the wedding myself!!) also said that the price next year for a similiar package was £2010 for 2010. I'll post the details of that too. I hope this helps, good luck finding your dream budget venue etc!! BTW I'm getting married in November this year so will have to let you know how it goes!!!

    My tips so far.
We are using The Moat House in Stoke On Trent. We are getting married 'out of season'. They tend to do weddings April to October, we are getting married in March and so there is no room hire charge. We are having half hot buffet, half fork buffet as there are quite a few kids and seniors who are more likely to eat stuff off the hot menu than the fork so there will be lots of choice. Desserts are provided with the hot buffet, and the cake is being sliced and served with dessert too. We are providing a welcome drink and toast drink each. We are also getting married late in the day and inviting the whole guest list to the whole shebang, that way we only need to feed them once. Total price £2700.

Have you tried your local racecourses? I am thinking Epsom, Kempton Park etc as they host weddings - you could even be married in the Royal Box.
  • What about the local council bulidings?
I am only having an evening do there though you should be able to get a good price in a council buliding?

Hi babyprincess - I am in the same boat here in London. It seems that the average prices for venue hire are around £3500+VAT - which is what I thought it might cost for a whole wedding! LOL must've been in a parallel universe or something.

We have only been engaged for a few weeks, so we've only looked at the obvious places on the web. I reckon it's time to get a bit more creative. We found a barn in Essex for £500, and a few places for nearer £1500. A lot of places don't seem to list prices on their sites, so we're waiting for them to come back. If they are budget I'll post them up! Here's the link for the barn -

It's a bit tricky, as I am from N. Ireland and OH from the west country. We thought London is a good halfway point, and transport hub as my sister also lives overseas. Now we're thinking it might be better to try a few west country venues - but I don't want to offend my parents! Can't believe it's so tricky already. Keep us updated on what else you find x

Siren, can I ask you some questions about the holiday inn?

We LOVE our local one for its location, but the only packages they seem to offer are about £40 a head during the day (we would like to get married, have the breakfast and the evening do there).

Ive followed your link to request a brochure, as the one Ive got is pretty slim and there is nothing about hot buffets in it!!!

school halls ?? there are some nice ones set in nice gounds. there are quite a few near me ( n.w london middlesex ) alot are listed buildings meaning they will have a romantic look to them.
other perks are they tend to have parking and sign posts some times up to half a mile away so your guests should find them.
