What none of the commentators on the Scottish economy seem to get is how dependent it is on make work government jobs, in a time where governments will shortly have little choice but to cut back on spending which will mean a MUCH longer recession.

There are 137,000 currently out of work in Scotland. There are 1.97m out of work around the country. This works out at 6.95%

However Scotland with 5.2m people out of a 60m population accounts for 8.67%

So no-one can say the Scots are workshy, we obviously have a lower unemployment rate than the rest of the UK ;)

It was surprising you highlighted everything bar the most important part of that article:confused:

This forum is getting so bad.
Just numpties making mountains out of molehills, like this report for example, it appears they are trying to insinuate that Scotland is in for a deeper, longer more sever recession, whan as you point out mitchaa, the report clearly says if will fare better than the rest of the UK
    Jealousy springs to mind.

I wish people would stop giving a !!!!!! about trying to gloat about specific areas that have no interest to them, its quite childish really.

I think I might joing WFT, NDG, carolt, gorgeous george etc and stop visiting for a while.

The forum might grow up a little if left for a few months

Yes. That sounds a bit like the HPI dreamer's tactic of removing their property for sale, with some flawed logic that it won't crash further in value if they aren't on the market. (Just reading a December 08 post from elsewhere)

I fear the forum "growing-up" you will come back to find in a few months, is many more people who've joined the -70% or -80% club. ;)
In March we put our house up for sale, but after our 3 months with the agent were up we took it off the market as most property sales had come to a standstill in our area.

In hindsight we should never have took ours off of the market, but it was out of pure frustration that we did. Initially we had lots of viewings but after 3 weeks of being up for sale it was literally the time when all the credit crunch business started and things just stopped or we were messed around by viewers not turning up. Looking at what's up for sale in our area, it looks like we'll have to put it up for more than £25,000 less than what we had it up for in March - but like you we know we'll have to drop a lot more & like you say that's if we're lucky enough to secure a buyer...

If we all focused too narrowly on isolated data, we might be unable to see the much wider picture, like I fear is true for some.
