Advice on DLC needed...please.

Hello, can anyone please help with some advice... back in 2004 I brought a car from a forecourt garage and took out a personal loan from Black Horse that was sold to me by the garage that included a loan for the car and also a payment protection policy included in the overall loan which totalled approx Loan - £6995, PPP - £1424, Interest/Fees £4457 total amount to be paid £12876 over 5 years.
Not long after I took this out my circumstances changed dramatically because of personal issues and I defaulted on the loan and also got into serious debt not only from this but with other creditors. At the time I can remember that I spoke with an advisor and was told I could have a payment break for a few months but I never received any written communication to confirm this and never heard from them again.
As a single mum of two and because of my circumstances I had no income I knew that I could not afford the car so was just waiting for the day that it would be repossessed. In fact this day never came and after a couple of years I gradually began to re-build my life.
I know I should have contacted Black Horse but in 2007, I eventually sold the car to pay off the other debts without telling Black Horse after probably not paying anything for about 2 years or the car being repossessed. In fact I could not have paid them anyway as I had no job at the time with no fixed assets, in fact I still don’t.
I now live with my current boyfriend who now supports me and my children but fundamentally I have no assets as he pays for everything and it is his house I now live in. Then in April 2008 out of the blue I was sent a letter from a company called DLC asking me to repay the debt of the car by setting up a direct debit online which I did and started to pay £60 per month. I then received a letter detailing the direct debit amount, my Bank details, date of first collection, frequency of collection (every month) and the final instalment amount. What is not included on the letter is the amount owed and also the number of instalments to be paid nor was told this by DLC.
I have left it until now as I thought as long as I paid it nothing would happen but a programme I recently watched re-opened my thoughts of what I currently pay and whether it was legal or not that DLC collect this money with no indication of what the debt is actually for, the balance of the debt and if I will ever pay it off.
I have never received communication from Black Horse that they have passed this debt to DLC, but to be honest I have never informed Black Horse of any change of address since I took out the Loan, nor did DLC inform me in writing that they now own the debt by providing me with specific details of the debt, just that I should contact them.
I have heard of that under the Consumer Credit Act 1974 sections 77(1) and 78(1) I can apply for DLC to send me copies of documents relating to this debt by also enclosing £1, and that I should not pay anything further until they provide me details of this.
I am a little confused to what I should do next and require advice on the above, I just want to get it sorted and finally move on with my life I have today and not that of a few years ago.
Can anyone please help me.....
