When a win is not a win

On January 22nd i received an email telling me that i had won a flying alarm clock :T. I waited and waited but nothing turned up so on Monday 23/2 i thought i would contact the company that had sent me the email. To my suprise i noticed that the original email was not addressed to me, it had a completely different email address. I have no idea how i got someone elses email .

So i deceided to send an email asking them have i or have i not won this prize. So far i have had no reply, but it doesn't look to good. So as it stands all i have won for the past 4/5months is a months supply of Activia Yoghurts:rolleyes:.

Oh well I'll just have to keep plugging away. :rotfl:

Must have had your email address in there somewhere else it would never have arrived in your inbox. I'd keep pestering them!
• Actually it sounds like spam to me, did you look up the name of the company through google, and can you locate the comp on this site.

I've recieved emails such as this before where its not my address listed but i recieved the email anyway, and its always spam in those cases, if they email back asking for details, such as phone number, then its best not to hand them over, unless your 100% certain that their legit.

Thanks for the post Jimjams - just checked my 'WEM' for the alarm clock and same thing happened! It's addressed to a yahoo.com addy which is nothing remotely like mine! Maybe we're not the only 2?

Probably spam, only asked for full postal address which I innocently replied with (future.net email addy) so nothing major there as my details are openly available if they looked.
The comp I checked was from here There were 100 to give away, just a while ago and I thought it took time. Daft or what!
The addy it came from, Anita.Casu@futurenet.com, does look official.
Thank you to everyone who posts comps! :A

This is the email that was sent. The address at the top is not mine. As you said isitenough it looks official does not look at all dodgy as they only asked for my address. But you never know with these scams.

Yep, exact copy of mine JimJam. I always thought I was good at weedling out the scams but this was a good one! (if we're assuming it was).
Oh well, least we didn't click a link or anything. I don't do that anyways so I'm safe there.
Will take the clock off my '2009 win' list then!

Hi,

I had an email from Anita Casu to say that I was a winner in the Total Film Elemis competition - which finished in August 08:eek: - in January 09 and the email did include my email address (as well as the other winners emails too:rolleyes:).

So, I think the wins were genuine - however I have still not received my prize and was thinking about trying to contact them. It seems they are very slow to organise the comps and wins.

The wins are genuine - There were 100 winners.

To get to our addys without revealing them all the company should have used a bcc to us all (i think) but they normally cover with a name rather than an email - so poor simon has his addy in the main body and everyone elses are hidden.

people are so quick to believe everything is spam when it doesn't arrive within the alloted time. Some wins of mine have taken several months to arrive.

Just to update - I sent an email to Anita just after my post here and received a reply at 4.33pm (15 or so mins later) saying:

I apologise for the delay on this matter. I have been chasing the suppliers, and your prize should be with you by next week.

Many thanks for your patience,

Anita Casu

So hopefully your fears will be unfounded.

Thanks josie for your comments and taking the time to email Anita.
Re: Jimjam, me and spam. Not so much fears, just suspicion, which in this day and age isn't something to pooh pooh.

I don't think Jimjam was complaining as such, but waiting 28 days for a prize is quite reasonable and to not receive a reply to an email is rude. To be honest, I'd 'filed' mine and was just waiting. But given the time it's taken them to actually contact winners is terrible.

Please don't be so quick to judge. Spam is rife and we should all have suspicions until they are proved to be unfounded.
I will wait quite a long time, forever if needed, to receive a prize! Any prize!
