Does this refer to those who give the advice without "letting on" that they are Mortgage Advisers rather than those who advertise the fact in the signature area of their post?

Not so much advertise, as opposed to adhere to board rules
    I am a Mortgage Adviser

  • I am not sure that I understand that.
Surely if for example you happen to be a "Queens Council" that would not bar you from making observations about matters which involved the law.

    Robert,

Not "advice"- it's opinion, which as I understand it is what the forum rules require. I'm not ashamed of the industry I've worked in & gained experience of over the last 20 years (incidentally, I have numerous financial qualifications in addition to mortgages); are you insinuating that people who choose to be honest about their status as advisers are somehow making a less valuable contribution than others who post?

Robert , the site rules say anyone can post their opinion, but if we make reference to our profession ( maybe to add weight to the opinions) then we MUST use the perscribed signature

And in my case, its there in my sig for compliance reasons as I once had someone complain to the FSA about my comments and they identified it was me and I had to have an "interview". Although when the compliance bod turns up and straight away says we dont have a problem here and we like what you are doing but we have to go through this anyway, you know you are ok. (the person complaining used selective copy and pasting and attributed comments to me which were clear from the thread were not made by me).

I was told to protect myself by adding the signature to my comments to make it clear that it was discussion and remain generic in discussions and avoid the word advice and any phrases that could be perceived as advice.
I am an Independent Financial Adviser (IFA). The comments I make are just my opinion and are for discussion purposes only. They are not financial advice and you should not treat them as such. If you feel an area discussed may be relevant to you, then please seek advice from an Independent Financial Adviser local to you.

  • This is the last time I'm getting into these sorts of slagging matches over signatures, brokers looking for business, brokers ripping off clients blah blah blah.

Goodbye all, it's just not worth while trying to help people on here.
I am a Mortgage Consultant and don't like to be told what I can and can't put in a signature so long as it's legal and truthful.
