Newbie: Help, suspicious company chasing me!

Hello

I'm new to this site so apologies if there have been posts about this before.

I have a debt with HSBC. I entered into an IVA which failed for various reasons last year. I heard nothing from HSBC (and have STILL heard nothing) but then in January I received a nasty letter form a company called CAPQUEST, saying they were chasing paying of my debt on behalf of HSBC. HSBC did not inform me that they had passed my debt to another company; (I'm sure this is wrong.....? ) and I have never heard of CAPQUEST so I asked them to provide proof of the debt. I sent a letter requesting this, with a postal order, by recorded delivery and CAPQUEST acknowledged my request in a letter they sent back to me. However, I have not heard a thing from them. What should I do? We are moving house soon and I don't know whether to let them know our new address. Don't they have 30 days to send me the paperwork I requested or something? Any help would be much appreciated, ta!

I have to also say that Capquest are not a particularly nice company to deal with. They had our telephone number from the previous people that lived here and chased and chased for a long time trying to get hold of money. They even tried to say that they would start contacting my employer. In the end I spoke to British Gas and they managed to stop them harassing us. If you do owe money, I would try and get it sorted to them because from memory, they were saying at every opportunity that they would be adding £50.00 here, £50.00 there, I think the debt was for about £100.00 and in 2 weeks of their care, it had already gone up to £340.00

hiya they are a group of debtcollectors, that are mean (as opposed to the warm fuzzy kind.) and there are loads of threads on here about them, try not to take all of their threats too seriously...

there was a thread that i though had somehing to do with crapquest in the title but i cannot find that one...

you are not the only one, just try not to be too disheartened by them... (i always find when dealing with scrouts that knowing that they aren;t getting any helps...)

  • Thanks for all your advice, I really don't want to deal with these people, but I DO owe the amount they are chasing; would it be advisable to get in touch with HSBC and deal with them directly instead of CAPQUEST? Or should I sit it out and wait for CAPQUEST to send me the documents I requested? (If ever!)

If the debt has been sold on to Capquest, then it is out of HSBC's hands I think. However, if it has just been passed onto them you might have more luck.

Can you call HSBC to check what they have done with the debt?
YOUR = belonging to you (your coat); YOU'RE = you are (I hope you're ok)

really....it's not hard to understand :T
