Old Council tax question

hi

not sure if this is the right place for this question but i am sure someone will redirect me to the correct place if its not.

having been on the phone to the council tax today trying to get a correct figure to pay for a property i moved out of in january, they mentioned i had a small amount (£300) of council tax outstanding from 2 properties ago in relation to yrs 96/97, 97/98, 2000/2001. having gone over my paperwork it seems that it was passed to teh sheriff officers for collection and the last letter i received about it was in june 2002 when the sheriff officers sent a warrant enforcement notice, i have a vague recollection (about 85% sure) of paying this but can't find a receipt for it  . just wondering what i should do about it, should i take the councils word and just pay it or should i contact the sheriff officers to confirm the payment was made on it

*edited to add i stay in scotland (which usually makes a difference on things i find lol)
