Thank you to all who replied.

Sorry no I can't help answer that for you perplexed confused.

It doesn't get any better either. I am now getting loads of emails from Alliance and Leicester saying my online banking has been blocked. Then asking for my logging in details.

I reported it to bt and they have shown me what to do to get the full header details to send to them.

I wouldn't mind but I haven't got an account with Alliance and Leicester, never had one in my life!!!

So please everybody be very careful and don't reply.

Unfortunety phishing happens alot- some of the emails are so basic it amkes you laugh and you begin to wonder at exactly how fried is the scammers brain...

Anything that asks for your finacial or personal details and please email back, unless you know in person who sent the mail in person- is a scam.

Anything you are unsure of- call up the company using details you have had on paper before the email was sent. Do not follow the phone number on the email.

If you are ever asked to log into your account to correct or update information, always open a new web-window and type in the address yourself, amend any details that way- or give them a phone call/personal visit again, following numbers and details you previously have on file. Never via information on that email. The way scammers get your details, is via you emailing or calling or writing to them.

If anything is that important, (i.e fraud) your bank/company will likely try to get hold of you via email, phone call and letter- not just a lone email. If its mildly important, (ie new interest rates)they may just email or write, and ask you to call back or log in-BUT they will NEVER supply a link to your account, nor ask you to "log in/click here"
  • I have had the e-mails dipsy81 reports. Supposedly from the Alliance & Leicester, Natwest and the Halifax. The first one to arrive was "from" the Halifax. As I haven't had an account with them for years and years I was immediately suspicious and forearmed for the next two (with whom I do have accounts) when they arrived. I forward them on to the "suspicious e-mails department" of the banks in question.

This morning I got one supposedly from Virgin (I am on cable) asking for my details and password as some maintenance work was taking place and they didn't want to lose my account.

Do these people think we are all stupid? I may be getting on in years but I'm not daft!
