My dad Died aged 65 on the 16 of Feb and i'm ( his son )sorting the bills out but have found that my father has left mum age 64 with £34.454.00 all of which is unsecured and no way of pay it off.
There are three credit cards and two loans.
I have been to the banks that they are with and they say it will go to the estate which means mum..at the end of the day.
The house is paid off and she going to go on a full pension when things get sorted with the social, but with that and the bills to pay she will never be able to pay any part of it.
Plus he has been having a pension for over twenty years and not told the social, we think they have found out about it. this could be as much as twenty or more thousand pounds to pay back.

I am so sorry for yours and your mums loss. It must have been a terrible blow,
these days 65 is not old at all.
I think i would pay a visit to the CAB, not sure about unsecured debts being paid after death but they should be able to help. Failing that any local solicitor usually gives a half hour free session and there is usally a family law specialist in most practices.
It must have been a terrible double whammy for your mum, losing her husband must have been devastating enough in itself and then finding all this out. Get some advice, and give your mum a hug.make the most of it, we are only here for the weekend.
and we will never, ever return.0 -

When my father died he had an unsecured creidit card there was no money in his estate so the debt died with him as the cards were in his name olny. If the cards were his I would say its not your mothers debt. Im sure someone will come along and give you more and better advice than I. Hugs to your mother and all your family at this sad time.World of Warcraft Widow No 10
