Martin Please help - have i been ripped off with Lloyds personal loan refinancing?

Help please…. I had a graduate loan back in 1998 which was then re-financed into a gold loan (why I don’t know I wasn’t earning loads, in the 25k bracket) I then got in trouble with repayments and this loan has been re-financed over the phone several times with Lloyds Bank. It has gone from 2k to 13k and I haven’t got any details. Am still awaiting the signed agreement from them and statements to try and track what I have paid and why it is this amount etc. They have offered me a full and final settlement of £8k - should I wait for the signed agreement of all loans? Should I dispute and only pay the 2k? I have been paying £150 most months for ages so I should imagine thats the capital plus interest? I feel I have been totally mislead about this loan partly my own fault as was out of control with money in 20's and have now spent last few years getting back on track and have re-paid everything else but I also feel its partly their fault with call centres abroad telling me they were refinancing and that was that. They have told me that I will be blacklisted when settling so why do I not just go and bankrupt myself?

I actually went into the branch on advice from the loans department who were baffled and couldn’t give all the details of the loan, they then phoned the loans company back who referred them to collections who in turn referred them back to the branch who were actually on to the phone with them – the gentleman in the bank had to keep reminding them he was a Lloyds employee acting on behalf of a customer i.e. he was the branch, this went on for 20 mins. It was embarrassing to observe for him, but it proved my point about Lloyds, if they are like that internally then you can see how it is for their customers.

Any help from anyone would be much appreciated - this cannot be right. I don’t want to walk away from what I rightfully owe but I never signed up to owing 13k either. I have still not received the loan agreements from the bank
