Hi.
I was planning to go bankrupt at the end of March but following recent developments i think i'm going to bring it forward..
My wife has told me that for the last two days people have come knocking at the door, a man and a woman, she knows of the situation and so just quickly closed the curtains and knocked the door, said they were in a car dressed in suits just came, knocked a couple of times then got back in the car and drove off. Sounds like Bailiffs would you say? I am worrying myself sick now that they're going to come in and take all my possessions. In a mad panic this afternoon i called my local court, but the lady said that they don't operate a booking policy you just get their first thing and they do 6 a do, operating on a first come first served basis. So, i've managed to get a small short term loan of my dad, my partner will give me some and the rest will be wages and decided to just get the forms done and do it this monday if possible and then the bailiffs cannot touch me. That is correct isn't it? BUT what about between now and monday, are they likely to force entry? If they come will they clear out my stuff? I'm so stressed at the moment i just want it over with, i really dont care about BRU/BRO, they can give me 15 years i just want everything to stop and to live our lives again without fear. My wife is in all day with the kids, she is also disabled and not english, she is very scared that the people will come back. Can anyone offer me any advice?
And also does what my court have said sound normal? I thought you always had to book?

Who do you owe money to? Do you have any CCJ's you haven't paid?
If no-one has taken you to court it's unlikely to be bailiffs, they tend to be big burly men with a white van. (I kid you not)Accept your past without regret, handle your present with confidence and face your future without fear0 -
Peachy is right, unless you have defaulted on a court order, they will not be Bailiffs. Anybody else, tell em to clear off.0

I have had a CCJ. Last year nationwide (even though i wa paying them the agreed amount) went for a CCJ and it got agreed at the original amount so seemed pointless but i haven't paid any creditors since November. To be honest i forgot about this CCJ as stupid as it sounds.0 -
Paul,
Make sure your wife ( & kids) know NOT to open the door...or even acknowledge unknown visitors. Its tough but only a few weeks.
I do understand as I had someone knock on the door last year....really spooked me so much I hid shaking with fear in the bathroom !!!! ( I did`nt know who it was & could have just been a salesperson but got sooo paranoid!!).
Like you say it really makes you realise that the sooner its `over` the better & you can all get back your lives.
Best wishes & <<Hugs>> to your wife....she will need lots of reassurance.

I think that can be normal from the courts - some require you to book and some just require you to turn up on the day so it is worth getting there when the doors open or before so that you don't have to go back another day and prolong the agony.Debt 30k in 2008.:o Cleared all my debt in 2013 and loving being debt free

I would be devestated if i build myself up and then 6 people get in before me, i shall try and get there about an hour before they open and just stand outside with a book and a coffee! I don't want this to drag on any longer. *off to make a start on my forms*0 -

I have received a lot of calls today from one of the collection companies. Having read this thread I feel a bit nervous as I live with my parents. My mum has dementia and this would cause problems if they came knocking on the door. Can I tell my creditors I am going bankrupt or does that cause problems?0
