Tapas would be a nice idea for a picnic. Just buy a baguette and put lots of different fillings on top and skewer it all with a toothpick.
eg tuna, boiled eggs, ham, cooked sausage and add a few more expensive things like chargrilled peppers, hummus and some nice dressings/dips for flavour, absolutely adored these in Barcelona!
  • Great idea, we're doing the same. To make it easy on myself I've just planned to have foccacia bread for a starter with some nice chilled wine, then a calzone pizza (I made the dough so some of that home made touch!), and I bought dessert from m+s. They have a great offer on their big bakewell/treacle tarts and a few other desserts of buy one get one half price, which meant a bakewell and treacle tart for £3. (They're all £1.99 at full price)
Loads of candles is always romantic but be careful if this is going to be picnic style! Also, music is free but very important remember. And make sure you give yourself a bit of time to get changed and spruced up after slaving over a hot stove!
Might sound silly but I know what I'd appreciate more than anything is to be spared the washing up and coming back to a tidy house. It's no fun having a romantic dinner in a messy room!
