FAIRTRADE Fortnight will visit Durham next week.
The bananas will be donated by Marks and Spencer, Sainsbury’s, Coop and JR Holland.
The event is being organised by the Durham City Fairtrade Partnership and will take place on Friday, March 6.
Stalls will be in the Market Place between 1pm and 3pm and at Durham University’s science site and Dunelm House between 12.30pm and 2.30pm.
The effort is part of a worldwide attempt to get as many people as possible to eat a Fairtrade banana between 12pm on Friday, March 6, and 12pm on Saturday, March 7.
Fairtrade aims to support farmers in third world countries by guaranteeing a price for their produce and paying a premium which is invested in the community.
