i cant change it mate sorry.I am not a Mortgage AdviserYou should note that this site doesn't check my status as not being a Mortgage Adviser, so you need to take my word for it. Any posts on here are for information and discussion purposes only and shouldn't be seen as financial advice.0 -
i think they are very similar, just a different title
You think wrong. Financial Advisers have to be higher qualified (currently 5 more exams but rising to 9 more between 2010-2012), deal with different clases of business and increasingly dont even deal with mortgages. I was in a meeting with IFA business owners/directors recently covering about 18 firms and not one of them in the room dealt with mortgages.
Most IFAs use mortgage advisers nowadays. Tied agents though still do a lot though but thats because they are employed to. If you are not going to differentiate between the types of advisers then this thread has no point. So, given the choice, I would prefer to use someone qualified and experienced to do mortgages and that would be a mortgage adviser and not a financial adviser.I am an Independent Financial Adviser (IFA). The comments I make are just my opinion and are for discussion purposes only. They are not financial advice and you should not treat them as such. If you feel an area discussed may be relevant to you, then please seek advice from an Independent Financial Adviser local to you.0 -

I use an IFA, but not for mortgages.I'm a Forum Ambassador on the housing, mortgages & student money saving boards. I have used an IFA for pensions/savings/life assurance type advice and also for mortgage advice when he used to do that, but he doesn't anymore. I've used mortgage brokers for mortgages.
I will try to remortgage myself next time round, as (partly thanks to MSE and another well-known financial site) I find myself a little better informed than I used to be. But I reserve the right to consult a mortgage broker, should I find myself getting into a tizz about it!
So I didn't answer the poll as it was too limited.0 -
I would never use oneWhen i bought my 1st house nearly 18 years ago , i wasnt aware what it was all about , I had a IFA , he guided us through it etc, and was very helpful, I still bump into my old IFA now and again, he lives in the next village to us in large 3 story house in about 4 acres of land.
It is only now with age and experiance that I prefer to do it all myself now, andwould not use a IFA.0 -
Advisers say something like "Past performance is not a guide to the future and you may not get back the money you invest". This is true but all advice seems to be based on the fact that you will in the long run do well................................I have put my clock back....... Kcolc ym0

I would never use oneIt is just like going for a window cleaner, some do a good job and some don't. But if you learn how to do it then you can always do it the way you like it.
Belive me mortgage is not that complicated.0
