Card protection - do we need to buy it?

Options
Just received notification of my three-yearly card protection plan. It costs £70 for the three years deal:confused: , but, do I really need it? Are there any cheaper options around? Has anyone got any good deals going, or do I even need it at all?
:hello:  please play nicely children !

We've never had it but we pay our card off every month.

Have you read Martin's article? Maybe that will help you.

We also pay our card off every month. The protection is for your cards, if they are lost or stolen, not in case we lose our jobs. Sorry if it wasn't clear. I think Martin called it 'cardguard' or something like that.

Oh, I see! We've not had insurance for losing them either but I don't know if it's really needed or not, personal choice I suppose.

For me, I always know where mine is (in my purse), my purse is always in my bag, and I'm very careful about my bag when I have it with me. If I don't want to spend my money I take OH :D .

But, OH has actually "lost" his card once. He forgot to take it out of the machine in M & S and the assistant didn't notice either. He realised about an hour later, immediately rung the card company to cancel it, rang the store to tell them what he'd done who looked for it and someone had noticed and put it away safely. He was very lucky on that occasion that an honest person noticed it. It didn't prompt him to think about insurance though, probably because it was a one off in donkeys years of having a card.

I think if you're confident about keeping your card secure then don't buy the insurance. If you're the sort who's a bit forgetful or dippy (no offence meant, just that I have a very dippy daughter :rotfl: ) then the insurance might be a good idea.

There, not much help am I?
  • If you leave your card in the machine at M&S the till won't let staff serve anyone else until the card is removed. Thats why you sometimes see staff dashing after customers after serving them lol. If there is no queue it could go unnoticed though.
I have a card insurance & also pay £30, I think TomsMom is right, if you're likely to put it down somewhere & lose it then its worthwhile. However mine also covers for losing keys & more importantly its a family cover so my teenage sons debit card is included on it. I reckon hes the most likely one of us to lose it
