Reclaiming Stamp Duty?

Hi all
Not sure if this is in the right place!
We had a letter today from a local solicitor company saying that they think they can reclaim our stamp duty and would do it no win no fee. They are saying that as it is a new build it should have been classified as being in an area of deprivation and wasn't, and that because of that we shouldn't have paid stamp duty. Purchase price was about £135,000 last May.
Does anyone know anything about this? Is it legit?
Their fee is around £360 if they get it back, but we'd be looking at getting £1000 back after that was deducted.

Lol I've just found that website myself, and a few old threads on here were people say they have done it. Our house is definately in a disadvantaged area, so my next question is how do we go about doing it? Is it fairly easy to do myself or am I better employing a solicitor?Weight loss to date - 8st 13lbs :j0

Just incase anyone else is looking into this, I have spent all day researching and come up with this.
To reclaim due to being in a deprived area you need to write to the Birmingham Stamp Office (Refunds), outlining why you are claiming a refund, ie that the house is in a DAR area as classified by the electoral wards, and why it wasn't picked up at the time of purchase.
You also need to include your UTRN (Unique Tax Reference Number) as listed on the STL1 form if you have it, and full property details (property address, purchaser name, purchase date, price, vendor details, both solicitors). In theory, this should result in a lovely cheque
Sending ours today, will let you know the outcome.Weight loss to date - 8st 13lbs :j0 -

Thanks for popping back with your info.0 -
Is this something new? If not, your solicitors who acted in the purchase should really handle the reclaim for you as they should have known this? If you want to do the reclaim yourself, it still wouldn't hurt to contact your solciitors, you might get something from them by way of apology/compensation for the error.0
