Equifax and financial association problem!!!

Hi folks,
This is a bit of a strange situation (At least it is for me) so Im not sure if anyone could give me a definitive answer, but here goes anyway. Ill try to keep it as brief as possible.
A few weeks ago I joined Equifax via their free online trial and set about checking my credit report. As expected, it showed me as being financially associated with my bankrupt ex-fiancee with three different financial societies (I have recently been turned down for a mortgage, and realised that this muct have been the problem, which prompted me to check my report). None of these links are current, infact one of them had been settled about 3 years ago, and the other two, I can only imagine were taken out by my ex without my knowledge, but she had my name put on the agreement. I dont know how that would be possible though. Anyway, I filed a request with Equifax to disassociate myself from her, but when I phoned them today to see if this had been done, they told me that they couldnt seperate me from her, as I still had a joint mortgage with her (This is because I never had the money to buy her out of the mortgage when we split, and at any rate, she would never have signed herself off of it anyway. Hence the reason for trying to apply for a new mortgage now, and buying her half of the house off of her OR).
I agreed that I should still have a financial link with her on the mortgage, but asked why I couldnt break the tie with the other comapnies, as these accounts had either been settled or were nothing to do with me. They said that because I had one active link with her, that they couldnt erase them and the only way to do that would be to contact the finance companies to apply for it to be withdrawn. This is where the problem starts.
I tried phoning one of the companies (A debt consolidation highwayman!!!!) but was told that they had gone into liquidation. I then phoned the Financial Services Ombudsman, who confirmed this and told me if I had a complaint, that I should speak to the Financial Services Compensation Scheme. Now strictly speaking, I dont really have a complaint, I just need someone to say that I dont have this link with my ex anymore. By the time I had a chance to call the FSCS, their offices had closed, so Ill have to call tomorrow, but wondered if anyone else here had any ideas on what to do?
Thanks in advance for any suggestions, and sorry for the war and peace story!!!
