Equifax & Makenzie Hall (Partnership)

All,

I have foud this site very useful. I have read the threads and used all the advice. I have got to the point where I cannot find a direct response to my question.

Makenzie Hall is a debt collecter based some where in Cardiff. They have been chasing me for years (about 7 years). I have completely ignored their letters and calls and never spoken to them. I have got to the point where I have cleaned all my history it has taken me 7-8 years and I want to get a mortgage now.

Last week I registered with Equifax only to find out that The DCA (Makenzie Hall) searches my credit profile every year and leaves a foot print on my equifax profile labelled as "outstanding Debt" and this is visible to all lenders who view my equifax report.

I have the following questions:

Has Makenzie Hall got the right to search my Credit report without my permission? ( I have not given them any right or expresed it to them in any way)

Secondly; Is Equifax is in Breach of the DPA rules surely they are not suppose to give my data ( or allow any one to view) my credit file?

I am sure if these actions have been taken legally then what is the point of statute barred debts if they can continue to leave foot prints on your file that will last for 6 years?

I desperately need devine intervention, I have two kids and I desperately need to get a home for them.

Please advise what steps I should take against Makenzie Hall, Should I call them now?

Should I write to them?

Any advice will be useful.

thanks
