hello
i have a ickle problem with the engagement party.
we have found a venue that seats about 70 people and is free with food being 5 pound a head which is fine as my family are going halfs with us but i would like to know who would you invite?
as i only have 10 relatives while my partner has about 50/60 but only see's about 20 of them
does he invite all or just the close ones he sees/ speaks to regularly?
thank you.

We didn't have an engagement party, but we had a very similar problem at our wedding! Our policy for relatives was invite those that we were close to eg my mum's cousins, but not their grown-up children (I wouldn't know them even if they were sitting next to me!). This didn't seem to upset anyone - well, they're all still speaking to us......Sealed Pot Challenge #021 #8 975.71 #9 £881.44 #10 £961.13 #11 £782.13 #12 £741.83 #13 £2135.22 #14 £895.53 #15 £1240.40 #16 £1805.87 #17 £1820.01 #18 £2021.83 declared0

we're having 2 separate engagement do's one for friends and colleagues (as we work in the same place) and another one for family.
we're having the friends one in our local (there's ab out 50 people coming) and a meal with our family (about 15 - 20) due to lack of spare funds.
however i do think if you're paying for food and a venue less would be better money-wise and if your partner hasn't seen a lot of his family or isn't close to them there isn't any point in paying for food for an engagement party and paying for them at the wedding (assuming they're going to your wedding). Just my opinion.0 -
hello
just a update to say we have cut it down to sixty people!
we decided not to invite all the people we haven't seen for ten years and just kept it to the close ones.
thank you!0
