Cheap driving lessons in swansea

My son has just turned 17 so been looking around for some deals on driving lessons, came across pass1st.com who are only in Swansea at the moment but have a great deal on where you get 5 hours of lessons for £50.00 and also a theory test cd free.

This was the best deal locally by far I could find even without the cd, had his first lesson on his birthday last Friday and came home buzzing, only problem is he's been nagging me to take him out in my car so I'll be checking the site for the cheapest way to get him on my insurance. lol

  • When it comes to driving instructors the best thing is to get recommendations from friends and family, there are some very good ones and some not so good ones. I know people who have gone with the large companies like red and bsm and have had to take multiple tests before passing, everyone I know that has used a smaller local instructor has been taught at the correct pace taken everything in and been successfully in passing their test. The large national jobbies get their work from being a big company and advertisement the one man bands get their work from word of mouth so need to be good to keep going. You will find that they will all do some sort of offer £50 for 5 hours does seem very cheap.

I know a few people that did the intensive lessons, week long thing and a test at the end 3 times for mate one and the other took 4 courses and still didn't pass and they both spent a small fortune. It is somthing to do with the amount of info a person can absorb at one time. ohh and neither of these 2 are the best drivers I know, they scare me when they are driveing.

Another thing, one of the worst things I did when learning to drive was to go out for a drive in my dads and other people's cars. The differences between cars is crazy light/heavy clutches, brakes and accelerator pedals all feel different especially to a young driver, getting back in the instructors car after a few hours in other cars can really put him back having to learn the clutch bite and everything again takes a bit of time again just like the first time he got in the car. My instructor said to me a few times that he could tell I had been in other cars every time I did.

My son was 17 yesterday and had his first lesson. Our instructor charges £20 per lesson but has a very good pass rate - word of mouth.

We have also just bought him a car, so that we can take him out inbetween lessons to get his confidence and to give him practice. We have been finding out that Quinn-Direct or Collingwood Insurance are the cheapest for insurance for Learner Drivers.

How can anyone charging £50 for 5 hours make a living?

£10 an hour less petrol, wear and tear, tax etc etc, doesnt leave much!

Probably because with these offers the costs soars after you're first 5...

To be honest yes the price does go up after the initial 5 hours but the most expensive rate per hour is only £17.95 which is still on the cheap side here in Swansea. Add the free theory cd rom which I was about to pay £15 for and I am still confident I am getting a great deal from this guy. Spoke to him today when he picked my son up and he told me that the 5 hours for £50 is just an introductory deal to get bums on seats so to speak. He seemed like a genuine guy and my son is over the moon as the car he gets to drive is in his own words "AWSOME"

Good driving instructors do not need to give silly offers, only the bad ones do.

You are buying a service, not a tin of beans.

Ask around and find out if anyone else has had him before. What is the pass rate for this instructor like?

Good luck, hope this guy can stay in business long enough to get your son through his test. Years of experience in this field tell me he isn't making a penny at that rate, and a good percentage of his bums on seats will only stay as long as the special offer does, then they'll be off looking for the next one. Not good business sense at all!

I learned with the AA, the most expensive in my area at the time, £22 a lesson, but passed first time, after 10 lessons, instructor was superb, and I drove my own car, with my partner instructing throughout this period too, and it helped me no end, I quickly adjusted to the differences in cars.
I'd agree with other folks, with driving lessons you get what you pay for usually.
