Will global recession change manufacturing industry towards better?

Serious question that is. Please share your views.

We all know how it degraded in the free market - ‘cost effective solutions’ garbage, make some crappy produce cheaply in China and sell ridiculously overpriced servicing/aftercare to idiots who buy it. Outsource it, insure your ar*e and wipe your hands. Make goods to fail just after their short warranty and make replacement a cheaper option than repair with custom design and ridiculously priced spares. Pay media to shove it into people’s throats.

And Brussels luuves and supports the most ‘cost effective’ manufacturers as long as they have enough landfill space in Eastern Europe/can ship toxic staff to Africa under some ‘support starving children with your old mobile phone’ programme.

Now with financial industry which provided backing and insurance necessary for this model is in ruins will we actually get better products?

And what about overblown services and overmarketed food industries? More for our money?

It certainly concentrates minds on ways to save money. For example, where I work, loads of energy saving methods have been put into place. You have to ask "why wasn't this done years ago"? Well, at the time there were other things to think about.
