My father has just been diagnosed with gall stones and shortly (fingers crossed)will be having his gall bladder removed. The hostpital has advised him to eat only small fat free food whilst he is waiting for his op. He is also diabetic .
So here's the problem he needs small meals with no fat and no sugar due to the diabetes and we are really stumped for ideas.
He loves any sort of fish, pasta, rice but He is not keen salads but other than that he will eat most things. He also loves buffety type things that you can snack on .
Any help please??

I`ve got a similar problem - DH is also diabetic (so am I ) and had a heart attack in September. He has to lose weight before by-pass surgery so I`ve put him on short rations (portion control as it`s known officially ) and I`m experimenting with normal recipes, trying to replace butter/marg with low fat spreads and using granulated sweetener instead of sugar.Fully paid up member of S.A.B.L.E.

Go back to your gp and ask for an appointment with a dietician.
I have a gallstone, and after two years sticking to low fat food can mostly now eat what I want within reason (no op). I still get twinges now and then. When I was on steroids when I was pregnant and my blood sugars were pushed up I more or less followed the slimming world plan, but your father is diabetic, so I'm guessing that following any sort of plan without proper medical advice would be foolish.
Maybe you could ask on freecycle for a slimming world magaine and see if it gives you any ideas. A lot of it is cooking from scratch, but some of the ideas can be a bit strange.0 -
Your Dad has my sympathy, I suffered a few years ago with gallstones, not very nice when you have an attack. I discovered it was dairy produce that was triggering my attacks ( probably the high fat content ). I cut out all dairy and to date still do, even though I had my gallbladder removed 6 years ago. I also used to eat Asda's range of Good for You products as they are low in fat, I ate a lot of Salads and homemade soups ( made with vegetable stock).
Hope he has his op soon and recovers quickly, incidently, I asked for my Gallstones back and they sit in my cupboard as a constant reminder of what fat can do to your insides.0 -
How about sushi for a treat? They are small and snacky and virtually fat free. Mr T do a nice selection in the sandwich cabinet.0

My friend who had their gall bladder removed loved oat cakes with sliced banana on, it was only as a snack but tasty and filling.0
