Drinks, what and how much should we get?

we are having a barbeque garden reception at my OH's aunts house, and we have no idea how much drink to buy, and what we will need.

there will be about 50 people, quite a lot of those are children. the adults are a mix of beer wine and spirit drinkers, and we get married at 11, so will be back at the reception at about 12.15ish and i can imagine it will continue until quite late

any ideas?

I have been given the following guidelines for my reception (which is in a pub), so not the same - but:

one standard 750ml bottle of champagne or fizzy wine should do 6 glasses, 1litre of orange juice for 6-8 glasses.
Allow 1/2 bottle of wine per person to go with a meal - basically one bottle red, one white between 4 people.
As its a pub, dont care about the beer or spirits - we are setting up a list behind the bar, allowing all our day guests 3 drinks each, and evening guests 1 drink each - then they are on their own!

There are lots of places that will do alcohol on a 'use or return' basis - oddbins used to (with the recession going on this might have changed though), or try Tescos or M&S, as they do catering packages and they might be able to help with quotas.

Other alternatives would be speaking to your local pub, as they might be able to help or you could do a google search for mobile bar services?

1/2 bottle PP is right, but I wouldn't do 50:50 red & white. Especially on a summers day.

    If anything 75:25 white:red.

i'm afraid i can't help with numbers, but morrisons will allow you to buy alcohol on a sale or return basis - they'll take back any full bottles of wine & unopened multipacks of beer/cider and refund whatever you paid for them.
  • oh thats fab!!! thanks broughy
