in Cutting tax
Hi All,
I was with friends last night.
One of them was adamant that you could claim back a proportion of your council tax or at least have it reduced in the future as an element of the Tax is for their pension fund...
Anyone know if this is true? If so how do you go about doing so?
Cheers
Sam

I would say your friend is misinformed.0

Council Tax helps fund local government spending, it has nothing to do with pensions. If you are querying your Council Tax band would you please state whether you are in England, Scotland or Wales0

Except to the extent that local gov spending funds both employees & employers contributions, but then so does the money I spend at Tesco's & I don't see them giving me a refund on the money I spend there as some of it is for their pension fund.
You friend might be confusing the income tax refund you can get on your own pension contributions0 -
(I work in council tax ) There is no element of council tax to do with pensions although as it funds the councils part of it is used in local government pension scheme spending.I no longer work in Council Tax Recovery but instead work as a specialist Council Tax paralegal assisting landlords and Council Tax payers with council tax disputes and valuation tribunals. My views are my own reading of the law and you should always check with the local authority in question.0

Anyone can withold part or all of their council tax if they so wish, because they don't want it to be used to pay for local government pensions / nuclear weapons / Jackie Smith's housing costs / your favourite peeve here.
They are then summonsed to appear in court and can be jailed..................
....I'm smiling because I have no idea what's going on ...:)0 -

We keep the role separate although I did just turn down the chance of a job change to NNDR - I'am doing the IRRV course at the moment though.Dont mess with council tax as they don't think twice to litigate and its the baliffs with them..
My dept only sends them if people don't try to pay and don't try to help themselves - make an effort and we very rarely need to send them.I no longer work in Council Tax Recovery but instead work as a specialist Council Tax paralegal assisting landlords and Council Tax payers with council tax disputes and valuation tribunals.
