Anyone offer any help

I am posting on here to see if anyone can help with a small problem I've encountered.
A Little background first. I work away from home for upto 3 months at a time. About 2 years ago (2006-7), First Direct, cancelled my overdraft and then started charging me overdrawn charges. At the same time, after sending 3 letters, they passed the debt onto a collection agency. On arrival home, I found all the mail, had a rant at First Direct and then paid the collection agency in full straight away. We are only talking £600 here, but FD have lodged a default on my credit file.
As a result, after separating from my wife last year, and earning considerably more than the national average, I decided to buy a house for me to live in when I'm home, and somewhere for all my post to end up at. I have to contribute to the house mortgage that my ex lives in, as my daughter currently lives with her.
Due to the 600 default, I cannot get a mortgage anywhere, with anyone. I have enough for a 15% deposit on the house I've found, but no one will offer me a mortgage. Is there a way I can get the default taken off, or challenge it?
To be completely honest, my income is well over £3000 a month, and my outgoings less than £1000!

So I do not read my post for three months at a time.

As per terms & conditions
At the same time, after sending 3 letters, they passed the
debt onto a collection agency.
As per normal practice
On arrival home, I found all the mail, had a rant at First Direct and then paid the collection agency in full straight away. We are only talking £600 here, but FD have lodged a default on my credit file.
As they would in these circumstances.

This is a cautionary tale of cause and effect for others.
Good luck. I hope other posters will be able to help you................................I have put my clock back....... Kcolc ym0 -
1 contact FD and ask if they will remove the default from your credit file
2 find out how much longer the default remains on your file
3 find a whole of market mortgage broker and see if they can help you find a mortgage
4 why do you want to buy right now ( prices droping ! )
5 rent somewhere cheap with room 4 kids to stay and save, save, save
6 in 12/24 months you will be in a strong position
with no defaults and plenty of cash to put down as a deposit on a home.0
