BARCLAYS BANK - Bank Error in their own favour?

I have a tenant who went to Barclays Bank a couple of months ago, tenancy agreement in hand, to set up a standing order to pay her rent.
When January and February payments failed to materialise, I got in touch with her and she went straight away to the bank as the payments had been debited from her account on time.
Barclays Bank admit that they were given the correct payment details in writing but input them incorrectly into their own system. They have contacted me direct at the insistence of my tenant to admit the error, but insist that they will not make the payment or refund the monies to my tenant until they have gone through their investigation procedure and recovered the money from the customer account they paid it into. I did point out that this was completely unjustifiable..... but as I'm not their customer they can obviously happily ignore me.
Very dubious business practices as far as I'm concerned. Does anyone know if screwing up, losing the customer's money then refusing to refund them until you find it is legal?

If Barclays have admitted inputting the wrong account number they should refund the tenant immediately. It is up to them to get the money back.
Then the tenant can pay the rent.0 -
They are a bit tight for money at the moment so you may have to bear with them0

I did try making the same point to them..... the local manager said he could see my point.... fat lot of good that's been.
They did say they'd pay my bank charges if I incurred any (I won't).... so presumably they'll also have to pay my tenant's costs (as it's her money they've lost). I had a sudden joyous realisation today - the tenancy agreement says the tenant will pay 12% on any payments overdue by more that 14 days. I'd forgotten all about that part as I've never been mean enough to use it....
As it's Barclays who will be paying though I'll have no hesitation in claiming my interest! Hurrah! It may add only up to a pint of lager, but I shall savour every last sip....

As it forms part of the contract then I see no problem in Barclays being liable for the consequences of the delayed payment.
If you put the wrong details into a payment to them ... do you think they would suspend interest ... ummm ... nope!0
