New Look Gift Card

Options
Hi

It is my niece's birthday this week and she has asked me to get her a New Look gift card. In view of a few horror stories about stores no longer accepting gift cards, I was wondering if anyone could advise if it is still safe to purchase a New Look card.

Any advice would be gratefully received. Thank you.

  • New Look I presume are thriving, just like a number of other cheap clothes stores. Just my opinion, not a fact.

Also, she would more than likely spend it within a short time of receiving it, I would still buy them for others if asked. If they are selling them then they should accept them.
  • I personally think any gift cards or vouchers are a risky business at the moment even though new look is unlikely to go into administration and stop accepting them.

    Maybe you could give cash?

I think the idea of pre-paid credit/debit cards is a safe idea (http://www.moneysupermarket.com/prepaidcards/) but i dont think you can purchase one for someone else or if there is an age limit (i will be looking into this in detail in the future cause at the moment i only know of there exsistence and not there details).

  • If she has asked for it specifically, I'm sure she will be spending it quickly and there are no signs of New Look going under at the moment. She may even already have her eye on something.

I'd only worry if I thought she wanted to keep it to spend in the future.
  • Since she has specifically asked for the gift card instead of cash, that's what I would get her. But to be on the safe side wait until the last minute before buying it and if you still haven't heard any rumours of New Look being in financial trouble then go ahead and get it. If she is anything like my daughter it will be gone within days.
  • Thank you all for your help - think I will take the risk but as suggested will wait until the last minute to buy. I think you are right that it will be spent fairly quickly anyway so fingers crossed.

    Thanks again everyone.
  • Is her new look inside a shopping mall? If it is then you could buy a general mall card/certificates and they would be good at most shops just in case.
  • Cant go into detail but I can assure you New Look is doing just fine

They are one of the few still investing & updating their stores

Hmmm, I'm with Post 3. As it's a niece, I'm sure she'd be fine if you just gave cash for the same value as you would a gift card. Or maybe you could even take her to NL to buy something?
